Sessions Overview

As a preschool, Our School tailors its hours of attendance to very young children from 2 1/2 to 6 years old.

2 1/2- to 3-year-olds attend Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This session is an introduction to a group situation away from family. Separation issues, connections with teachers, and interactions with other children are closely observed and attended to. Movement and a variety of play explorations are emphasized, balanced with increasing focus on attention and routine.

3- to 4-year-olds attend Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Separation is less of an issue. This session's curriculum stresses more profound explorations and connections with things and peers. Children are responsible for their chosen engagements as they develop more concentration and focus. Three mornings a week offers them that opportunity.

4- to 5+-year-olds attend on four afternoons (Monday-Thursday) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Most are able to plan their own activities and follow through with them over days or sometimes weeks at a time as they become more self-disciplined, committed and focused.

ADMISSION AND APPLICATION PROCESS

Visits

To begin the application process, a prospective family is encouraged to attend an open house— see the Calendar. Following this visit, we request a parent visit the specific session that they may be considering for their child. We recommend these visits because we believe that parents do not consider placing their children in a center to be a casual affair. Parents want to know that their child will be safe and secure. They also want to be fully assured that their child will receive and benefit from an appropriate program. The web site can provide valuable descriptions of the program but the information gained through observation of a session is the best way to confirm a correct placement.

Application

At your visit, you will be welcome to examine our budget, ByLaws and policies and at that time you may take home an application packet to review. Within a few days, someone from the school will contact you to answer any questions about your visit. If you choose Our School, you will need to submit an application and include a non-refundable application fee. Upon the receipt of your application, our Membership Committee will immediately review it. You will be notified by phone of its acceptance and be informed if placements are available. If there are no openings in a specific session, you will be asked if you wish to be placed on our waiting list.

Membership Agreement

Once you have chosen to enroll your child at Our School, you will be provided with a Membership Agreement which includes details of the financial responsibilities that need to be met and a copy of Our School ByLaws and Policies for your inspection. We request that you take time to carefully read these documents and call for further inquiries if needed before you sign the Membership Agreement. The Membership Agreement is to be signed and returned by the deadline stated in it. Once a Membership Agreement is signed and received by Our School, your child’s placement is reserved and your family is a member of Our School. A copy of this Agreement will be provided to you for your records
